Arvid J. "Ace" Larson
Arvid J. "Ace" Larson, 93 , of State College and formerly of Ramey passed away Thursday, July 31, 2008 at 12:30 AM at the Fairways of Brookline, State College.
Mr. Larson was born on March 2, 1915 in Jamestown, NY a son of late Herman Brown and Julia (Thomassen) Brown Larson.
Mr. Larson was a member of Faith United Lutheran Church, Houzdale and was a 1936 graduate of the Shade Central High School.
He served 40 months in the US Navy durning WWII and was aboard the USS Sangamon fro 2.5 years.
Mr. Larson received a Bachelors Degree from Clarion University and a Masters of Arts Degree from the University of Michigan. He retired in 1977 from the Moshannon Valley School district as a classroom teacher in the Science Department. Prior to teacher, he worked 8 years in the coal mines.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #449 of Central City, PA; the Pennsylvania Association of Retired School Employees and the National Educators Association. He was a past member of the Philipsburg Country Club; Nittany Lion Club and the UMWA. Mr. Larson was an avid golfer and Penn State Football Fan.
On Feb. 14, 1963 he married his fellow colleague the former Genevieve Buranovsky who survives of State College.
Mr. Larson is also survived by two sisters and three brothers; Gladys Larson of Cairnbrook; Ester Nosel and her husband William of Central City; Walter Larson of Chadds Ford; John "Art" Larson and his wife Barbara of Silver Springs, MD and Carl Harry Larson and his wife Jean of Cairnbrook. A number of neices and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, John Larson, and a sister, Ruth.
Friends will be received Saturday from 4-8 PM and on Sunday from 12-1:30 PM at the Kruise Funeral Home, Inc. Ramey.
Funeral services will be held at Faith United Lutheran Church, Houtzdale on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Brett Jenkins and Pastor Greg Harbaugh officiating. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Brisbin. Military Honors will be conducted in the funeral home on Sunday at 1:15 PM by the Osceola Mills Honor Guard.
