Leo R. Slogaski, Sr.
Mr. Leo R. Slogaski, Sr., 78, of Houtzdale, passed away at 7:20 PM, Monday, September 7th, 2009 at Altoona Regional Health System - Bon Secours Hospital Campus, Altoona, PA.
Born on Feb. 8, 1931 in Whiteside a son of the late Leo J. and Susan (Lagwanitz) Slogaski.
He graduated in 1949 from the Houtzdale -Wooodward Twp. High School and served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War.
On July 2, 1951 in St. Basil's Catholic Church, Coalport, Mr. Slogaski married Betty Ann Kashtock Slogaski who survives in Houtzdale.
He retired 1987 as a Sheet Metal Mechanic with Local #12 of Pittsburgh, after 40 years service.
Mr. Slogaski was a member of the American Legion Freeberg Post #591, Houtzdale and Houtzdale MOOSE Lodge #327.
He is survived by five children; Kenneth L. Slogaski and his wife Dianne of Lyleville, RD Coalport; Sandra L. Berg of Morrisdale; Robert J. Slogaski of Pittsburgh; Michelle Phillips and her husband Robert of Glen Hope and Leo R. Slogaski, Jr. of Houtzdale.
He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Kendra L. Slogaski, Nicole Russell, Joseph Kovalcin and Elizabeth Phillips, three Great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Slogaski was the last of his generation having been preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Joseph.
Friends will be received on Thursday, Sept. 10, from 2-4 PM at the Kruise Funeral Home, Inc. Ramey. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at 4:00 PM in the funeral home with Rev. Fr. Gregory A. Kirsch officiating.
Interment will be in the American Legion Cemetery, Brisbin.
