Georgeanna (Granville) Chenchark
Mrs. Georgeanna (Granville) Chenchark, 96, of Smithmill, passed away at 10:50 AM, Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at her residence.
Born on April 9, 1913 in Betz, RD Madera a daughter of the late William George and Sarah Gertrude (Powell) Granville.
Georgeanna graduated from the former Bigler Twp. High School in 1933. She worked in Cleveland, OH, during WW II, in a war factory as "Rosie the Riveter ". In 1944 she began working at the Smithmill Post Office and retired in 1975 as Post Master. She was a member of the Post Master's organization and would attend postal conventions.
Georgeanna was very much loved and respected by her family and friends, she loved canning and baking and one time enjoyed making ceramics. After retiring she and her husband, Mickey, enjoyed wintering in Vero Beach, FL.
Georgeanna was a member of the Janesville United Methodist Church where she was a choir member.
She is survived by a son and daughter; Ronald Garbinsky and his wife Marjorie of Columbia, SC and Winifred O'Connor of Point Harbor, NC. Two step sons survive, William Chenchark and his wife Loretta of CA and Thomas Chenchark and his wife Jane of Semi Valley, CA.
She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
On May 12, 1934, Georgeanna married Charles Garbinsky, he died on Dec. 17, 1945. On Aug. 25, 1951 in the Ramey United Methodist Parsonage she married Mickey Chenchark, who died on Jan. 17, 2003.
Georgeanna was the last of her generation having been preceded in death by the following siblings; Bessie Grove, William Granville, Martha Kephart, Russel Granville, Abraham Granville, Gertrude Lomache, Ruby Jones, Donald Granville, Alma Allayaud, Ruth Granville and Gordon Granville. She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Dan O'Connor.
Friends will be received on Sunday, Sept. 20 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and on Monday, Sept. 21 from 11 AM until 2 PM at the Kruise Funeral Home, Inc. Ramey.
Funeral Services will be held on on Monday, September 21, at 2:00 PM in the Kruise Funeral Home, Inc, Ramey, with Pastor Dennis L. McCracken officiating. Interment will follow at Brisbin I.O.O.F. Cemetery Brisbin, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Janesville United Methodist Church C/O Patty Lender P.O. 29 Smithmill, PA 16680.
