Pearl (Desmett) Gillen
Mrs. Pearl (Desmett) Gillen, 91, of McCartney, passed away at 5:50 AM, Monday, December 7, 2009 at Epworth Manor, Tyrone, PA.
Born on May 18, 1918 in Bigler Twp. a daughter of the late Ashley and Florence (Howe) Desmett
Mrs. Gillen was a member of the Irvona Christian & Missionary Alliance Church and Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America. She retired in 1978 from the Charles Navasky Clothing Factory, of Philipsburg and had worked in various sewing factories as a seamstress for 45 years.
On March 7, 1936 in the parsonage of the Brisbin Church of God she married Camie H. Gillen, he preceded her in death on Oct. 13, 1974.
Mrs. Gillen is survived by four children; Harold C. Gillen and his wife Barbara of Plum; Sandra L Ibberson and her husband James of Madera; Sally A. Parrett and her husband Edward of New Holland and Charles A. Gillen of McCartney.
She is also survived by 7 grandchildren; Brenda Rahim, Harold Gillen, Jennifer Gillen, Kimberly Ibberson, James Ibberson, Jr., Ryan Dudurich and Brent Dudurich. Eight great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.
Mrs. Gillen is survived by four siblings; Charles Desmett and his wife Luella of Tallmadge, OH; Victoria "Tudy" Miles and her husband John of Irvona; Robert Desmett and his wife Norma of McCartney and Marlowe Desmett and his wife Sarah of Kerrmoor. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Wendy McGarvey and Gail Gillen; a sister, Cathryn Potkalesky; two brothers, Alfred "Barney" Desmett and George "Buddy" Desmett.
Friends will be received on Thursday, Dec. 10 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM and on Friday, Dec. 11 from 9-11 AM at the Kruise Funeral Home, Inc. Madera.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, Dec. 11 at 11:00 AM in the Kruise Funeral Home, Inc., Madera, PA, with Pastor Paul Jacobson officiating. Interment follow in the Fruit Hill Cemetery Jordan Twp., PA. The family request memorial donations be made to the Irvona Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, Irvona, PA 16656.
