George "Sheik" Holobinko
Mr. George "Sheik" Holobinko, Sr, 86, of Madera, formerly of Clearfield and Glen Hope, passed away at 11:22 PM, Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at his residence.
Born on April 30, 1923 in Madera a son of the late Wasco and Anna (Dordth) Holobinko.
He was a 1941 graduate of the former Madera High School and earned a degree in drafting from the Pittsburgh Technical Institute. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman First Class in WW II.
He was a member of the Ansonville Baptist Church.
Before George entered the Navy he worked for the former Yorkshire Coal Co. of Madera. He retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation as a bridge design engineer.
George was a member of the Osceola Mills F & A.M. Lodge #0515; Williamsport Scottish Rite; and the John Lewis Shade American Legion Post 6, Clearfield.
In his younger years, George, played baseball for the Madera MOOSE team and Smoke Run baseball team, he also played in the Clearfield Fast Pitch softball league. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener and enjoyed listening and dancing to Polkas.
He is survived by four children; George Holobinko, Jr and his fiancé' Jo Ann Cline of Clearfield, Deborah A. Gregg and her husband Tom of Madera, Frank L. Holobinko and his wife Pamela of New Cumberland and Barbara Weymers and her husband, Wess of Mifflin.
He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Three sisters and a brother survives; Catherine Bartosh of Colonia, NJ., Mary Boone of Fostoria, OH, Annie Hawkins and her husband Herbert of Glen Hope and Peter Hall of Banning, CA. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
George was preceded in death by his parents; his former wife, Gladys Mae (Baer) Ingram; 3 sisters, Stella Anna, Irene Jones and an infant sister; 8 brothers, Samuel, John, Frank, Basil, Andy, Mike, and two infant brothers.
Friends will be received on Friday, Feb. 12, from 7-9 PM and on Sat., Feb. 13 from 12 Noon - 2 PM at the Kruise Funeral Home, Inc, Madera.
Funeral Services will be held on Sat., Feb. 13 at 2:00 PM in the Kruise Funeral Homes, Inc., Madera, with Pastor Tina Hawkins officiating.
Interment will be in the Bell Cemetery, Glen Hope.
