Michael A. Wasiw
Michael A. Wasiw, 83, of Beccaria, PA passed away at 1:05 AM, Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Windy Hill Village, Philipsburg.
He was born on Nov. 3, 1926 in Beccaria, a son of the late Andrew and Julia (Lorzhack) Wasiw.
Mike attended and graduated from the former Beccaria Twp. High School in 1944.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a Radarman Third Class during WW II.
Mike retired in 1990 as a Heavy Equipment Operator from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation after 23 years service. He also was the founder of Valley Tree Service.
Mike was a parishioner of St. Basil's Catholic Church, Coalport, a life member and past Commander of the Stephen Kandrach VFW Post 6321, Janesville where for 50 years he served as the VFW post bugler at military funerals and memorial services. He also was a member of the Clearfield American Legion Post and the Croatian Club Lodge # 80 of Smokerun.
He is survived by two daughters and a son; Lynnette Timko and her husband Tim of Clearfield , Karen Wasiw-Britten and her husband Walter of Houtzdale and Kevin Wasiw and his wife Lori of Beccaria.
He is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Josselyn Miller, Gared Timko and Brianna Wasiw; and a great grandchild.
Mike is survived by a sister, Helen Wasiw of Costa Mesa, CA. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Burns; three brothers, Frank Wasiw, Tom Wasiw and Andrew Wasiw.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, June 22 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and on Wed., June 23, from 9-10:15 AM at the Kruise Funeral Home, inc. Ramey.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wed., June 23, at 11:00 AM at St. Basil's Catholic Church, Coalport. Interment with graveside Military Honors, accorded by the Janesville VFW post will follow in the Beulah Cemetery, Ramey. Condolences may be sent to; condolences@kruisefuneralhome.com.
